Our girls U18 team train on Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm to 7pm sharp.
Our philosophy and focus is predominantly on 7s rugby for age-grade girls. We believe this is the best means of development for those new to the game. It provides more touches per player per game, is considered less physical and technical than 15s, teaches all the basic game principles of rugby (both the 7s and 15 a side game), and it is more attractive and enjoyable to those new to the game
We play in a number of one day blitz competitions during the season. The focus is not on winning, but on getting the girls playing regularly and developing their skills by facing a different variety of opposition and challenges.
Our players still play 15 a side, many for Leinster at age-grade level, and once they graduate from our age-grade to full adult rugby.
We have found this philosophy has worked for our players, with many having gone on to achieve provincial and national representative honours at both 7s and 15s, as well as having graduated to our senior sides.
To be considered U18 for the 2015/16 season, a girl must have been born on or after 1st July 1997 (but not after 30th June 2000).
The team is coached by Blaise Kenny, Bernard Higgins, James Fisher and Tom Newman.
